The Right Yarn: How Yarn Choice Shapes the Fabric You Knit

Saturday, September 12, 2026, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET
Kyle Kunnecke

Why does one yarn create an amazing project while another makes the same pattern fall flat? How can you tell what a yarn is going to do before you cast on?

In this workshop, we’ll look at what actually happens when yarn meets needles. Fiber content, construction, elasticity, and needle size all play a role in the fabric you end up with—and understanding those factors makes it much easier to evaluate whether a yarn is a good fit for a particular project before you commit to it.

We’ll also talk about what yarn labels can (and can’t) tell you, and why matching weight and gauge isn’t always enough. The goal of this session is to help you recognize how a yarn is likely to behave so you can choose yarn with confidence—even when you’re not using the yarn a pattern calls for.

Every project teaches you something about yarn and fabric. This class is about learning how to recognize those lessons and use them to make more successful decisions going forward.
